As a Pediatric Physical Therapist, Jessica has experienced firsthand the wonders of working with children in the water. Jessica grew her private practice, Stepping Stones Physical Therapy over 6 years. She developed a clinical specialty in aquatics, through earning an Academy of Aquatic Physical Therapy Clinical Competency Certificate and treating clients for hundreds of hours in an aquatic setting. She established and volunteered as head coach for a Special Olympics swim team, specifically developed for young children. Jessica has experience working for and volunteering with several non-profit organizations over her career. She is passionate about giving back to the special needs community, creating aquatic opportunities for all children that are safe, effective and affordable. She hopes that SNAP with Stepping Stones develops into a supportive community where children, parents, staff and volunteers can enjoy aquatic-based programs cooperatively.
Danielle began her aquatic career as a certified lifeguard at the Simi Valley YMCA. From there she went through training to become a swim instructor and water fitness instructor and currently has 10 years experience teaching group and private lessons from 6 months to adults as well as experience working with students with disabilities. She then pursued and completed a doctorate degree in physical therapy at California State University Northridge. Now as a licensed PT she uses her skills and knowledge in and out of the water to provide quality care to kids and adults to help them reach their functional goals. It is her joy to be able to work with a variety of patients and colleagues in an aquatic environment.
As a pediatric physical therapist, Grace loves to work with kids of all ages and all abilities. Grace is originally from Colorado where she started out as a high school physics teacher. When she decided on a career change, she couldn't get away from working with kids. After completing her doctorate at University of Southern California, she found her passion working with students in special education with the LA county schools. However, she only works with kids on land and when she found out about SNAP, she was so excited to find another way to work and help children reach their goals. When she's not working, Grace loves to travel (mainly to try different types of food) and is a huge cinephile. Grace also loves exploring her new adopted city of Los Angeles, again with the goal of trying to find the best food in the city. She is also an avid sports fan and will cheer for LA teams as long as they aren't playing her beloved Denver teams. Grace is very excited to start working with SNAP and growing her skill set as a pediatric physical therapist.
Celeste graduated from Cal State Northridge with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and Bachelors in Exercise Science. She began her aquatic experience with an internship during her undergrad for Stepping Stones Physical Therapy and saw the wonderful benefits in children’s function and gross motor skills while utilizing an aquatic setting. She also previously instructed in adaptive aquatic exercise classes for children through the Center of Achievement at CSUN. Today, Celeste continues to be dedicated to providing quality pediatric physical therapy care and increasing quality of life and function in children and families. She is passionate about participating in non-profit organizations and giving back to communities with limited access to health care resources.
Natalie is a playful pediatric occupational therapist with a masters in occupational therapy from Springfield College in Massachusetts. Her love for helping children and aquatics started at an early age. Natalie was a collegiate swimmer at Springfield College and an ocean lifeguard in Ventura, CA for 10 years. She has been teaching swim lessons to children for years and is excited to merge her two loves of aquatics and occupational therapy. Outside of being an occupational therapist, she enjoys camping, triathlons, and hanging out with family and friends. She is excited to work with SNAP to provide children and their families occupational therapy in a fun and playful aquatic environment.
Brittany is a passionate, gentle, caring and compassionate occupational therapist with a masters degree in occupational therapy (OT) from Loma Linda University. She has been a pediatric OT for 10 years and has worked in a variety of settings (early intervention, outpatient clinics, school districts, etc.), and enjoys working with and serving children and their families. Brittany has volunteered as a swim coach for the Special Needs Olympics, served on Wheels for the World Outreaches in third world countries with Joni and Friends to adapt wheelchairs, and serving with special abilities ministries. Brittany grew up actively involved in water sports and is excited to merge her passions of water activities, occupational therapy, and serving through SNAP. She enjoys outdoor activities, especially water sports, working out, serving in the community, crafting, baking and cooking, reading, traveling, live music, country events, and especially spending quality time with friends and family. She is excited to work with SNAP to provide children and their families individualized OT services in a unique and play based environment that emphasizes compassion and care in a supportive and fun environment.
Cara is an experienced and caring pediatric occupational therapist. She completed her Masters at San Jose State and has worked in school, early intervention, and clinic settings. She was drawn to SNAP program because being in a pool and learning to enjoy water play can have impactful sensory benefits and allow kids to experience some freedom and relief from overactive nervous systems. Water can provide deep muscle input and calming for sensory avoidant or very active sensory seekers. Cara enjoys exploring new areas, yoga, and pop culture, especially K- culture.
Keren is a speech-language pathologist with over 12 years experience working in clinics and schools. She is California State University Northridge alum and currently pursuing her certification in the subfield of Orofacial Myology with IAOM. She runs her own private practice where she specializes in Orofacial Myology, speech disorders, language disorders, and more! In addition, Keren works at Ride On in Chatsworth, providing unmounted speech therapy services for the pediatric population. A true water baby, Keren swam before she walked so joining the team was a natural fit. She firmly believes in the significance of aquatic based therapy and how beneficial it is for the community.
Maya is a seasoned swimming instructor and lifeguard, with 9 years of experience. She was greatly influenced to work with the special needs community, after working with a disabled swimmer. Maya started providing respite for children with ASD. Approximately two years ago, she started working as a behavioral therapist. Maya was inspired by a presentation about SNAP for the YMCA staff to apply for a position at SNAP. "I knew it would be a great fit for me." To be able to combine both my love of teaching and my love of working with special needs children, it felt like home to me. Maya is currently pursuing a master's degree in Occupational Therapy, where she is hoping to implement water-based activities in OT.
Maureen is a retired attorney with a passion for swimming.
She finds true joy in working with children with unique needs and their families which began through volunteering with A Walk on Water, Surf Therapy and as a Special Olympics swimming coach. She celebrates her journey to being a certified Swim Whisperer, youth special needs swim instructor.

Nikki graduated from Northern Arizona University with her Bachelors in Exercise Science. Her mother is a Speech-Language Pathologist, so she has grown up working alongside physical, occupational, and speech therapists for children with special needs. This helped develop her incredible love and passion for working with children, and she has always wanted to give back to the community that raised her! Nikki began her aquatic experience volunteering at Stepping Stones Physical Therapy and was amazed by not only how beneficial but how fun aquatic therapy was for each child. She has since gone on to work in an outpatient physical therapy clinic, become a children's ski instructor, and volunteer in her free time at Ride On in Chatsworth. Nikki is currently applying to physical therapy graduate programs with a goal of becoming a pediatric physical therapist herself!

Hi! I'm Mona, mama to my boys - Leon and Andre. Watching them grow, laugh, and thrive brings endless joy and gratitude to my life, all of which I’ve been able to experience thanks in part to SNAP. Professionally, I’m a Clinical Pharmacy Manager at a local independent pharmacy, where I love making a difference in our community by advocating for my patients. SNAP has been a lifeline for our family, and is an organization I believe every child would benefit from. My passion for advocacy and my personal journey as a mom to a child with special needs inspire me to wholeheartedly support SNAP's incredible mission. I am excited and grateful to join the Board and look forward to the wonderful year ahead!
Originally from Sri Lanka, I moved to California when I was 6 years old. My family and I moved to Ventura County when I started middle school and I have been here ever since. I graduated college with my BA in Child Development. My son Sully was diagnosed with autism when he was 3 years old. When he was diagnosed I stepped into action - found all therapies, l tried everything anyone told me was a good idea or helped and most of all I had faith. My son loves the water but couldn’t swim and my biggest fear was him drowning. I searched far and wide but had no luck for 3 years finding a swim school or the special abilities community. When I found SNAP it felt like all my prayers were answered. SNAP is a program I believe should be accessible to all families. I hope in my role, I bring awareness and help SNAP reach pools, homes and schools worldwide.
As a parent of a child with a disability I am passionate about accessibility in all areas. I have seen the dynamic impact SNAP has had on my family and my goal is to expand SNAP in order for more families to have access to this program. In the special needs/disability parenting community, we are well versed in finding the best therapies and activities for our children. I bring my personal experience as a proud mother, new RN and former college counselor to navigating expansion and inclusion. I could not be more grateful to be involved on this board of directors.
"All swim instructors were friendly, professional and had great communication. My son built great rapport with each one. I appreciate the feedback and suggested strategies to follow up at home."
"I thoroughly enjoyed observing my son during his swim lessons and learned a lot from watching instructors."
"My son has improved his overall abilities while in the water. My goal for my son was to have fun in the water and be safe, but he has gained so much more while attending swim classes with SNAP. His swim skills have improved so much. I am so proud of him and all he has learned from SNAP swim instructors."
"My son has been taking swim classes since he was a year old in different facilities and a swim school. Never have I seen such improvement in his skills and the experience and knowledge from instructors as I did with SNAP. They are the BEST!"
"This is such a needed service in our community. We are grateful that these lessons were accessible to us. Out son benefitted from extra PT strengthening activities in the water. We saw him do things he's never done, like climb out of the pool unassisted! We would like all of our friends to know about these fun and professional classes!"
"We looked forward to swim classes, the exercises were good, the games were fun and inclusive and it was a great way for the kids to socialize together."
"My biggest fear was my son not knowing how to swim and water safety, especially because he loves the water. In 6 short lessons he got it! I was not hopeful especially first few lessons when he was very clear he will not go put his head underwater! We cannot thank you all enough!"
"We loved using SNAP for our 6 year old daughter with Down Syndrome. The instructors are very patient and caring. We saw a great improvement from her first session to her last session. We would recommend SNAP for any child with special needs."
"Because pools and water are a sensory heaven for my son, water safety has been a huge priority. Now he is a competent swimmer, even underwater! He has become a total fish! With Danielle’s help, my son can dive for rings and feels more comfortable jumping to the bottom of the pool in the deep end. She helped maintain his skills that were previously taught and provided his body the input he needed to strengthen his coordination. At the end of our lessons, I received a progress report with all of the skills he worked on and helpful tips from Danielle — what an unexpected bonus! We look forward to future lessons!"
